About Our QR Code Generator

Our free online QR code generator helps you create QR codes for URLs, WiFi networks, social media profiles, and text content. QR codes (Quick Response codes) are two-dimensional barcodes that can be scanned by smartphones and other devices to quickly access information.

What is a QR Code?

A QR code is a type of matrix barcode that can store various types of information, including URLs, text, contact information, WiFi credentials, and more. QR codes were invented in 1994 by Denso Wave, a Japanese company, and have since become widely used for marketing, payments, authentication, and information sharing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I scan a QR code?

Most modern smartphones have built-in QR code scanning capabilities in their camera apps. Simply open your camera app and point it at the QR code. If your device doesn't have built-in support, you can download a free QR code scanner app from your app store.

Can QR codes expire?

QR codes themselves don't expire, but the content they link to might. For example, if a QR code links to a URL that no longer exists, scanning it will result in an error. Static QR codes (like the ones our generator creates) don't have built-in expiration dates.

Are QR codes safe to scan?

Generally, yes, but you should be cautious when scanning QR codes from unknown sources. Malicious QR codes could potentially link to phishing websites or download malware. Always verify the source of the QR code before scanning, and be cautious about what actions you take after scanning.

Can I edit a QR code after creating it?

Once a QR code is generated, you cannot edit the content it contains. If you need to change the information, you'll need to generate a new QR code with the updated content. However, you can customize the appearance (colors, size) before generating.

What's the maximum amount of data a QR code can store?

QR codes can store up to 2,953 bytes of data, which is roughly equivalent to about 4,296 alphanumeric characters or 7,089 numeric characters. For URLs, this is typically more than enough. Very long URLs might need to be shortened first.

Do QR codes work offline?

QR codes themselves are just images and work offline. However, if the QR code contains a URL or requires internet access to function, you'll need an internet connection to access the content after scanning. Text-based QR codes can be read offline.
